Week 9 of men’s water polo action kicked off on Wednesday with three ranked teams in the pool.
The first top 10 matchup of the week saw #9 UC San Diego hit the road to face #6 Long Beach State. The homestanding 49ers earned a 12-10 win with help from a Rafael Real Vergara hat trick and two goal efforts by Curtis Casper, Garrett Zaan and Matt Morris.
It marked the first of three Top 10 contests on slate for the 49ers as #3 Pacific and #8 Cal also are set to visit Long Beach.

#3 Pacific heads to Long Beach to face the #6 49ers on Friday. #8 Cal is set for an MPSF road game at #2 UCLA on Saturday, while #1 Stanford also will be in Los Angeles for a evening conference matchup with #7 USC.
On Sunday, #8 Cal visits Long Beach State to wrap up the Top 10 battles.
#4 UC Santa Barbara and #16 Fordham are each off from competition on Week 9.
