4x Nebraska State Finalist Olivia Dendinger Sends Verbal to Nebraska-Omaha

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Olivia Dendinger has announced her decision to remain in-state with a verbal commitment to swim for the University of Nebraska at Omaha. The breaststroke will join the team beginning in the 2022-2023 season. Dendinger is a junior Papillion-La Vista High School, where she trains under the direction of Head Coach and Aquatics Director Nick Baker. She is a year-round competitor for Greater Omaha Aquatics.

University of Nebraska at Omaha felt like a perfect fit for me! Being able to pursue both my academic and athletic career close to family and friends is important! Coach Todd is someone that I felt could help me grow both as a person and athletically! I am excited to be able to represent UNO’s swim team!

In 2019, Dendinger became a NAG record-holder in the 15-16 200-meter mixed medley relay. Previously a member of the Sarpy County Swim Club, she swam the breaststroke leg of the relay at the 2019 Speedo Sectionals in Jenks. Mateo Miceli led off on backstroke (26.93), followed by Dendinger on breast (33.47), Mia Snow on fly (28.48), and anchored by Luke Barr (23.32). Their time of 1:52.20 made them the first team to clear USA Swimming’s benchmark of 1:56.30.

Dendinger qualified for the Nebraska High School State Championships both her freshman and sophomore year, with the meet being canceled her junior year. She finished 5th in the 200 IM her first year and took home a bronze medal in the 100 breast. The following year, Dendinger swam the 100 breast and the 100 fly, touching 4th and 6th in finals, respectively.

Top SCY Times:

  • 50 breast – 29.22
  • 100 breast – 1:03.39
  • 200 breast – 2:20.43

Dendinger is expected to be a top competitor for the Mavericks when she arrives on campus in the fall of 2022. Her times would have made her one of the team’s top breaststrokers during the 2020-2021 season. Dendinger would have earned spots in the A-finals of both the 100 and 200 breast at the Summit League Champs. Caroline Gardner posted the fastest 100 breast time for the Mavs, going a 1:03.46. Annie Leinart was their fastest swimmer in the 200, touching 6th at the conference champs in a time of 2:20.19.
