#4 Recruit Adam Chaney Makes Commitment To Florida For Fall of 2020

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Ohio sprinter Adam Chaneya World Juniors medalist and one of the top recruits in his class, will join the University of Florida next fall. The school announced the addition on social media today:

Chaney was the last top-20 recruit in the high school class of 2020 to make his college commitment. We had him ranked #4 in that class, which is an outstanding class with some high-potential 2020-and-beyond Olympians near the top. As of those ranks, Chaney had the best 100-yard free time in his class, along with a 50 free near the best in the class.

He’s also improved his 200 free dramatically and has solid 100s of fly and back. He’s also coming off an excellent long course season in which he jumped inside the top 15 Americans of any age in the 50 free and inside the top 25 in the 100 free. Last summer, he won four medals at the 2019 World Junior Championships: individual bronze in the 50 free along with two relay golds (boys 4×100 free relay & mixed 4×100 free relay) and one relay silver (boys 4×100 medley relay).

Chaney’s Top Times

  • 50y free: 19.64
  • 100y free: 43.00
  • 200y free: 1:35.99
  • 100y back: 47.10
  • 100y fly: 48.14
  • ——————–
  • 50m free: 22.40
  • 100m free: 49.27
  • 200m free: 1:52.13
  • 100m back: 54.96
  • 100m fly: 55.66

Chaney competes for the Mason Manta Rays out of Mason, Ohio, and attends Mason High School. He’ll join a Florida program that has recruited very well the past couple of years, but had no top 20 recruits committed from the high school class of 2020. Florida was the training base for record-smashing sprinter Caeleb Dressel, and last year helped freshman Will Davis make two SEC B finals and earn an NCAA invite.

Chaney joins a Florida collegiate class of 2024 that includes in-state prospects Brendan Peacock, Caleb Kravitz, Jace Crawford and Trevor McGovern.

Good for him. Didn’t see that coming.

BigCarotTop

that Full ride was a big pull

Dbswims

Kinda wish he went to Texas ngl but cant full ride really is hard to beat

Cao Samson

He probably got Maxime Rooney’s full ride.

Speed Racer

I think the days of a full ride are gone with most men’s programs being home to 35-40 guys. It just can’t be done and still allow room for others to sign.

Horns up

That’s simply not true. 9.9 scholarships to be divided how they see fit. The very top swimmers in each class DO get full rides…just not necessarily to their top choice school if their money is already gone, which does happen. But A swimmer of Chaney’s caliber is certainly deserving of a full scholarship and IMO he likely got one. Congratulations to him and best of luck at UF.

oof

Mr Piano

Florida is not a good place for sprinters. There are many great sprinting programs you can pick, Florida is for 200/400 IMers. A sprinter would be ruined there.

lol

Dbswims

Yea dude, like Dressels trash. He could have been so much better in University of North Dakota

Pvdh

Just look at what happened to Dressel. Came in a sprinter and ended up swimming 200IM and 100 breast

Sun Yangs Hammer

I know right. Troy really ruined that last sprinter who went there. Don’t even remember his name.

Blaize

Troy dosent coach there last time i checked. So irrelevant what Troy did or didn’t do.

Mr Piano

Yea. Too bad Troy’s gone. He said he does USRPT, so now we have some new guy who probably doesn’t have ANY sprinting experience.

Dave Tonkin

Troy never left the deck and is still coaching Dressel for the club team there. Wake up!

Dave Tonkin

He has about 10 Olympic hopefuls in his pro group there.

Dan

You are definitely not wrong. Labeling Florida as a sprint program because of Dressel is a mistake. The next best Florida 50 freestyler at 2018 NCAAs came in at 42nd place with a 19.7.
That said, it’s obvious the Troy and Florida was a 100% the right coach and school for Dressel.

camelboar

Mark and Jan were pretty good sprinters too that year. Won the 2free relay with Dressel

About Jared Anderson

Jared Anderson

Jared Anderson swam for nearly twenty years. Then, Jared Anderson stopped swimming and started writing about swimming. He's not sick of swimming yet. Swimming might be sick of him, though. Jared was a YMCA and high school swimmer in northern Minnesota, and spent his college years swimming breaststroke and occasionally pretending …
