Double defending champion Georgia Wright of West Chester won the 1650 free with her best time yet, coming within 2.5 seconds of breaking the NCAA Division II record with 16:20.05. She split her 500s evenly with 4:57/4:59/4:57. Wright also won the 500 free and 1000 free in Indianapolis this weekend. Francesca Bains of Queens finished second with 16:25.32. Nova Southeastern sophomore Emma Sunstedt, who had led the first half of the race, took third in 16:30.53. Grand Valley junior Melina Goebel went 16:38.98 from out in lane 1, taking more than 10 seconds off her seed time. Queens junior Sarah Reamy was 5th with 16:48.43.
Delta State senior Caroline Jouisse, Wayne State senior Ellie Dean, and Wingate freshman Kate Agger rounded out the podium. They were the three fastest performances of the morning sessions.

For the second time today, Polina Lapshina of Queens broke the NCAA Division II and meet records in the 100 freestyle. After going 48.36 in prelims, she lowered her own mark by .20 in finals with 48.16. Oklahoma Baptist junior Victoria Fonville was out with Lapshina, turning just 2/10 behind her at the 50 wall, but Lapshina exploded off the 75 wall and came home alone. Fonville picked up the silver with 49.42. Western State Colorado’s Randi Yarnell, who had won the 200 free, finished 3rd in 49.88.

Queens freshman Bobbi Gichard was unchallenged from start to finish. Her sophomore teammate Rachel Massaro went out early with her, then survived a late charge from Northern Michigan’s Rachel Helm to hold onto the second position. Anna Miram of Wingate moved past Vladyslava Maznytska of Queens over the second 50 and held onto the third spot until Helm’s big move on the final 50. Gichard won with 1:55.08. Massaro came to the wall just ahead of Helm, 1:55.57 to 1:55.79.
Helm won this event with 1:57.20 last year. The top 4 were all under that time.

After qualifying second in prelims, Drury junior and meet record-holder Bailee Nunn left no doubt as to her intent in the final. She went out quickly, turning in 29.3 at the 50. Queens senior Shelly Prayson and IUP junior Claire Mikesell were also under 30 on the first 50, but both fell off pace over the next 100. MSU Mankato sophomore Lily Borgenheimer, meanwhile, made a charge on the third 50. She outsplit Nunn slightly on the third and fourth 50, but it wasn’t enough to make up for the nearly 9/10 lead Nunn had built by the 100.
Nunn touched in 2:09.67, about a half second off her record. Borgenheimer was second in 2:10.35, while Hannah Kastigar of Northern State moved into third, going 2:13.02. Fresno Pacific’s Olga Tovstogan went 2:13.77 for fourth.

Christina Sather of Clarion, who placed 3rd in 1-meter diving on Thursday, won the 3-meter board with 515.60 points. In 2018 she was third in this event, scoring 477.50.
Wayne State went 2-3 with sophomore Amanda Hurchalla (506.80) and junior Mia Teifer (496.50). A year ago they placed 11th and 13th, respectively.

Queens tied their meet and Division II record in the 400 free relay with a time of 3.18.04 from Lapshina (48.77), Lorda (49.78), Dollmayer (49.96), and Prayson (49.53).
Tampa (Hana Van Loock, Elizaveth Bazarova, Molly O’Hara, and Megan Waddell) edged UC San Diego (Alexis Hargadon, Ciara Franke, Brittney Miles, and Reagan Eickert), 3:21.33 to 3:21.76, for second.
