2018 W. NCAAs: Hansson Swims to #2 All-Time with 49.8 100 Fly

2018 WOMEN’S NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

On night 3 of the 2018 Women’s NCAA Championships in Columbus, Ohio, we got to see 2 sub-50 100 butterfliers go head-to-head for the first time as USC’s Louise Hansson and Tennessee’s Erika Brown stepped up for the 100 fly final. Hansson was the only swimmer in the final to crack 50 seconds, turning in 23.36 en route to a 49.80 victory. Tennessee’s Brown finished 2nd in 50.33.

Hansson is now the 2nd fastest swimmer in history in this event, moving one spot ahead of Brown, who swam a 49.85 at 2018 SECs. Her swim was also the 2nd fastest performance ever. The fastest swim ever was done by Louisville’s Kelsi Worrell as a senior at the 2016 NCAA Championships. Worrell, who was the first woman ever to break 50 seconds, put up a 49.43 there.

Louise Hanssons biggest individual win ever. So much fun to watch. I hope her strong 200 fly in scy translate well to a great 100 lcm fly
