Japan and the USA remain tied in the race for most golds. Ali Deloof tied for gold in the 50 back to give the Americans a gold, but Japan won gold in tonight’s 4×200 free relay, so they’re now tied with 7 golds each.

In terms of total medals, however, the U.S. has increased its lead to 6 medals, with Katie Drabot (200 free silver), Hannah Stevens (50 back bronze), Austin Katz (200 back silver), and the men’s 4×200 free relay also earning medals for the Americans tonight. Russia (13) is now just 2 medals behind Japan (15) after getting 4 medals tonight from Aleksandr Sadovnikov (100 fly gold), Arina Openysheva (200 free bronze), Roman Larin (200 back bronze), and the men’s 4×200 free relay.

One of the countries to win their first medal of the night was the Netherlands, who took gold when Kira Toussaint tied for the win in the women’s 50 back. The Bahamas also put themselves on the map on day 6, as Joanna Evans earned their first medal with her bronze-winning performance in the women’s 800 free. Sweden’s first medal is a silver courtesy of Johannes Skagius in the men’s 50 breast.
