2017 Women’s NCAA Championships: Day 2 Prelims Scratch Report

2017 WOMEN’S NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

There weren’t any big-time or surprise scratches for tomorrow’s prelims session at NCAAs. The highest seed to drop was Kim Williams, a sophomore from Stanford, who was seeded 27th in the 200 IM. In total, a whopping 19 women scratched out of the 200 IM, compared to 9 in the 50 free and only 3 in the 500 free.

Many of the 200 IM scratches make sense. For example, Louisville’s Andee Cottrell, Kentucky’s Danielle Galyer, and UVA’s Laura Simon are going to be vying for top 3 spots in their respective races, none of which are the 200 IM. It’s pretty common for top stars to ditch their third event, in which they probably wouldn’t score, in order to pursue their specialties and help out on relays. Listed below are all of the scratches, with seeds, for tomorrow’s prelims session.

Notably, Mizzou’s Katharine Ross is out of the 200 IM. She did not swim at SECs last month, either, so questions loom about whether or not she’ll be racing this weekend. Ross has been a breaststroke star for Mizzou– last year, she touched 4th in the 100 breast and won the B final of the 200 breast, and also placed 21st in the 200 IM.
