2017 US Junior Nationals: Dakota Luther Scratches 400 Free on Day 3

2017 Speedo Junior National Championships

There are only three scratches out of the circle-seeded heats on Thursday, August 10, Day 3 of the 2017 Speedo Junior National Championships, but all three are high-profile names. Dakota Luther of Austin Swim Club dropped the 400 free, where she was seeded eighth, to focus on the 100 fly. There she is the top seed with 59.79, but two other butterflyers come in with sub-1:00 times, Coleen Gillilan of Fort Collins Area Swim Team, and Isabel Ivey of Gator Swim Club. Luther, the top seed in the women’s 200 fly, was run down over the final 10-15 meters of Tuesday’s final and will hope to avoid that situation on Thursday.

We haven’t seen Aquazot Swim Club’s Eva Merrell all week, so her scratching out of the 100 fly, where she is seeded #1, isn’t a surprise. Andrei Minakov of Terrapins Swim Team, who is seeded #2 in the men’s 100 fly, does not appear on the heat sheets for Thursday.

Here are all the scratches out of the circle-seeded heats (top 24 of the 100 fly, top 16 of the 400 free) for tomorrow morning’s events:
