2016 U.S. Paralympic Trials Day Three Prelims

2016 U.S. Paralympic Team Trials — Swimming

The Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center has now hosted five sessions of the 2016 U.S. Paralympic Trials, and every session so far has produced multiple records.  Day three preliminaries were highlighted by two current American Record Holders making significant improvements over their previous bests.

Zachary Shattuck cut 4.28 seconds to reduce the American Record for the men’s SM6 200 IM to 3:04.00.  That time erased the 3:08.28 mark he set in December last year at Bismarck.  Shattuck will also be the top seed in finals for the S6 100 freestyle.

Michelle Konkoly, who currently trains with Paul Yetter at T2 Aquatics, lowered her American Record for the S9 100 meter free by .74.  The new mark of 1:02.00 ranks her first in the world for 2016.

The mixed class preliminaries set up a spectacular race in the men’s 100 freestyle as S11 Brad Snyder, S10 Ian Silverman and S10 Tye Dutcher stormed to the finish close together at 57.64, 57.67 and 58.07 respectively.

Jessica Long and Noah Scherf will both be top seeds in three events for tonight’s final.  Long leads the SM8 200 IM, along with the S8 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke events.  Scherf leads the SM13 200 IM and the S13 100 free and 100 back events.

Finals begin at 5pm EDT.  Be sure to stay tuned in to SwimSwam for tonight’s action in Charlotte.
