Day 6 Races to Watch

Men’s SM7 200 Individual Medley

Ievgenii Bogodaiko of Ukraine looks to defend his title in this event, having won the event back in London. The United State’s Rudy Garcia-Tolson aims to reclaim the gold medal after finishing second behind Bogodaiko in London, having previously won this event back in 2004 and 2008. Mathew Levy of Australia also figures to be in the medal hunt.

Men’s S10 100 Freestyle

2x defending Paralympic champion Andre Brasil will have to swim the race of his life in order to defend his crown. After a disappointing 4th in the 50 freestyle, Brasil will have to keep a close eye on Maksym Krypak and Denys Dubrov of the Ukraine. Also, Brasil’s fellow countryman Phelipe Rodriques looks to back up his silver medal from the 50 from earlier week with another medal. Australian Rowan Crother’s also looks to be a contender for a medal.

Women’s S10 100 Freestyle

Aurielle Rivard of Canada looks to add from her gold medal in the 50 freestyler earlier in the week. However, New Zealand’s Sophie Pascoe, the runner up to Rivard in the 50 earlier, looks to continue her hot streak and win her 4th gold medal of the meet.

Women’s S8 100 Backstroke

Like the rest of the week, the women’s S8 category should continue to deliver on both controversy and drama. World Record holder Stephanie Millward of Great Britain looks to add to her medal haul along with teammate Stephanie Slater. Maddison Elliot and Lakeisha Patterson of Australia also look to provide stiff competition, Elliot being the 2015 World Champion in this event. Jessica Long enters the event looking to get back on top of the podium, having failed to do so yet at these Paralympic games.

Women’s S9 50 Freestyle

United States Michelle Konkolly looks to back up her gold medal, and world record swim from day 5. Standing in her way will be Australia’s Ellie Cole and Spain’s Sarai Gason. Other American’s in the event include Hannah Aspen and Elizabeth Smith.

Looks like a GREAT day for the IM cheats — Men’s S10 100 Free, Women’s S8 100 Back, Women’s S9 50 Free, others (!) — A few of these athletes should be more than ashamed. Rio Paraswimming continues to be a joke.
