2016 CANADIAN OLYMPIC AND PARALYMPIC TRIALS

The Canadian Paralympic Trials saw two national records this morning, as Tammy Cunnington earned one in the women’s SB3 50 breaststroke, and then Jonathan Dieleman followed up with one of his own in the 50 breast as well. The 50m breast races will take place at the end of the session, while the 100m events will start things off. Katarina Roxon comes in with the top seed in the women’s 100 breast in 1:26.89, while Maxime Rousselle leads the men with a time of 1:12.23.

Women’s 100m Breaststroke PARA SB4-14 Multi-Class Finals

  1. Katarina Roxon, 1:24.25, Sb8
  2. Sarah Girard, 1:23.08, SB9
  3. Reilly Bird, 1:25.77, Sb9

Top seed Katarina Roxon defended her top seed, taking the win in 1:24.25, taking off over two and a half seconds from this morning. The time moves her into 3rd in the world rankings for 2016. 2nd place went to Sarah Girard in 1:23.08, and 3rd was Reilly Bird in 1:25.77. Girard’s time puts her into 6th in the world in the SB9 category, while Bird’s time has her 5th in the world in the Sb9 category.

Men’s 100m Breaststroke PARA SB4-14 Multi-Class Finals

  1. Maxime Rousselle, 1:11.44, s14
  2. Gordie Michie, 1:13.22, sb14
  3. James Leroux, 1:11.41, SB9

Maxime Rouselle also defended his top seed, placing 1st in 1:11.44. Rouselle’s time moves him into 7th in the world rankings in the sb14 category. Gordie Michie was 2nd in 1:13.22, moving into 11th in the world in the same category. James Leroux was 3rd in 1:11.41, claiming 3rd in the world rankings in the SB9 category.

Women’s 50m Breaststroke PARA SB1-3 Multi-Class Finals

  1. Tammy Cunnington, 1:16.28, SB3

Tammy Cunnington improved her time from this morning by 0.16, re-breaking her own Canadian record in 1:16.28. Her swim keeps her at 4th in the world rankings in this event in the SB3 category.

Men’s 50m Breaststroke PARA SB1-3 Multi-Class Finals

  1. Jonathan Dieleman, 50.93, Sb3

After setting a Canadian record this morning in 50.39, Jonathan Dieleman touched in 50.93 tonight. Dieleman’s time from this morning puts him 3rd in the world rankings in the Sb3 category. He is not far off the world leading time of 49.71 set by Efrem Morelli of Italy.
