2015 NCAAs SEC Roundup: Henry’s Journey To First Place

 WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

In the spring of 2011, Sarah Henry re-tore her ACL and didn’t even swim at NCAAs the next year – so how did she take first place finish in the 400 IM her senior year?

In 2011…

  • Broke school 400 IM and 1650 records

In 2012…

  • Injured, redshirted

In 2013…

  • Swam a 1:44.11 on the anchor leg of the 800 free relay
  • Finishes third (400 IM)
  • Comes in 1st place in NCAA prelims in the 400 IM
  • But comes in sixth place at NCAA finals (Beisel takes first)
  • Finished second in the 1650 at NCAAs

In 2014…

  • Finishes third in NCAA 400 IM prelims, then fourth in the finals.
  • Finished fourth in 1650 finals

In 2015…

  • Wins NCAA prelims and finals

For Henry, she spent three of her four college years in Elizabeth Beisel (Florida) and Cammile Adams’ (also Texas A&M) shadows – finishing third to the two distance IMers in nearly every championship meet. With Beisel and Adams having graduated in 2014, though, 2015 was Henry’s year to shine.

Big Hits:

  • Kayli Burchell (Alabama) second in the 100 breast
  • Georgia takes third in the 800 free relay
  • Natalie Hinds (Florida) takes fifth in the 100 fly.

Final SEC Team Standings:

  • 2. Georgia
  • 5. Texas A&M
  • 9. Tennessee
  • 10. Mizzou
  • 13. Florida
  • 19. Kentucky
  • 22. Auburn
  • 29. Alabama
  • 35. LSU
  • 41. Arkansas
