Women’s 200 backstroke – Final

The highlight of the night by far was Emily Seebohm in the women’s 200 backstroke. Seebohm took the event in a time of 2:06.69 taking over the top spot in the world rankings. She grabbed that spot away from Australian teammate Madison Willson who posted a 2:08.27 in the semi-final.

Seebohm improve on her lifetime best of 2:07.61 by almost a second. She is also now in striking distance of Belinda Hocking’s national record mark of 2:06.06.

With that win that makes it a sweep of the backstroke events for Seebohm. She also now occupies the top spot in the world rankings in all three backstroke events.

Hayley Baker collected the silver in a time of 2:08.21. Baker destroyed her best time of 2:10.86 by more than two seconds.

Wilson who led at the 100 meter mark dropped to third finishing in a time of 2:08.57.

Hayley Abood finished fourth in a time of 2:11.72 followed by Sian Wittaker (2:11.99), Mikka Sheridan (2:12.06), Elyse Wood (2:14.42), Monique Rae (2:14.97).

Men’s 50 freestyle – Final

James Magnussen won the men’s 50 freestyle finishing in a time of 21.98. His time places him fifth in the world rankings.

After the first true test of his new training environment at the Ravenswood Swim Club under the guidance of Mitch and Lach Falvey. Along with this result Magnussen finished second to Cameron McEvoy in the 100 freestyle posting a 48.18 which also puts him second in the world rankings.

McEvoy finished second in a time of 22.03 which places him seventh in the world rankings.

Matthew Abood picked up the bronze in a time of 22.30. He was followed by his brother Andrew Abood who touched in a time of 22.34.

Kenneth To finished fifth hitting the wall in a time of 22.52 followed by Will Stockwell (22.60), Luke Percy (22.70) and Cameron Jones (22.84).

Men’s 100 butterfly – Final

Tommaso D’Orsogna and Jayden Hadler had an intense battle in the 100 butterfly. D’Orsogna led the race from start to finish, but not by much. At the halfway point he turned in a time of 24.12 followed by Hadler who hit the wall in a time of 24.17. At the 100 meter mark D’Orsogna was the first to touch posting a time of 51.92 followed by Hadler who finished in a time of 51.96.

  • Hadler – 24.17/51.96 (27.79)

Neither man was able to match the life time bests that they put up in the semi-final. D’Orsogna qualified for the final in a time of 51.90 while Hadler had recorded a 51.66.

David Morgan finished third in a time of 52.03.

Grant Irvine finished fourth in a time of 52.23 followed by Daniel Lester (52.89), Kerian Qaium (52.98), Justin James (53.42) and Nicholas Brown (53.46).

Women’s 800 freestyle – Final

Jessica Ashwood took the women’s 800 freestyle in a time of 8:26.08. Ashwood already holds down the second spot in the world rankings with the 8:21.33 which she posted at the New South Wales State Championships earlier in the year.

Kian Melverton collected the silver in a time of 8:31.01. The race was a spectacular one for Melverton who came into the competition with a lifetime best of 8:42.50 which she posted in 2013.

Tamsin Cook and Leah Neale duked it out for the bronze with Cook getting the best of Neale touching in a time of 8:34.31. Neale hit the wall in a time of 8:34.56.

Katie Goldman finished fifth in a time of 8:37.79 followed by Brianna Thorssell (8:39.47), Chelsea Gubecka (8:40.88) and Kareena Lee (8:41.79).

Women’s 50 butterfly – Final

Brittany Elmslie took the women’s 50 butterfly in a time of 26.07 followed closely by Emma McKeon who collected the silver in a time of 26.15. Elmslie’s time ranks seventh in the world while McKeon was not able to meet her season’s best of 25.99 which currently ranks fifth in the world.

Reigning champion Marieke D’Cruz won the bronze in a time of 26.38.

Mi Cornelissen finished fourth in a time of 26.90 followed by Jessica Hobin (26.92), Jessica Reinhardt (26.98) and Chris Licciardi (27.11).

Women’s 50 freestyle – Semi-Final

As would be expected the two Campbell sisters qualified for the final of the women’s 50 freestyle with the top two times. Cate Campbell posted a 24.19 while Bronte Campbell recorded a 24.41. Cate’s seasons best of 24.03 sits atop of the world rankings while Bronte’s season best of 24.24 sits in second.

Melanie (Schlanger) Wright qualified third in a time of 24.93.

Men’s 50 backstroke – Semi-Final

Benjamin Treffers posted a lifetime best of 24.76 to qualify with the top time for the men’s 50 backstroke final. Treffers previous best was a 24.86 which he recorded in 2013. His time also places him fourth in the world rankings.

Mitch Larkin was the next fastest qualifier hitting the wall in a time of 25.40 followed by Daniel Arnamnart who touched in a time of 25.49.

Women’s 50 breaststroke – Semi-Final

Swedish star Jennie Johansson was the top qualifier in the women’s 50 breaststroke posting a time of 31.01. Johansson’s time puts her fourth in the world rankings.

Sally Hunter was the next fastest qualifier touching in a time of 31.14 which just misses her season’s best of 31.07.

Lorna Tonks qualifier with the third fastest time of 31.23.

Women’s Multi-Class 200 freestyle

Maddison Elliot won the event in a time of 2:28.12 followed by Taylor Corry who posted a 2:15.19 and Tenea Houghton who recorded a 2:17.86.

 Women’s Multi-Class 200 IM

Teigan Van Roosmalen took the event in a time of 2:42.57. She was followed by Madeleine Scott who posted a 2:40.45 and Taylor Corry who recorded a 2:36.76.

Men’s Multi-Class 200 IM

Matthew Levy won the event in a time of 2:37.13. He was followed by Rick Pendleton who hit the wall in a time of 2:14.59 and Jeremy Tidy who touched in a time of 2:17.55.

Men’s Multi-Class 150 IM

Ahmed Kelly took the event in a time of 3:01.50 followed by Gran Patterson who posted a 3:10.37.

Thoughts?
He appears to be faster in the 400 than Grant when they swim similar 1500’s. I don’t think Grant was swimming 3:44.6 when he was 14:48 in the 1500. But a reasonable goal for him is 14:40.

My guess is he’ll be in the low 40s… but he probably has his long term goal under 1430.
