The Women’s Ivy League Swimming and Diving Championship got off to a quick start this morning at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.
After prelims in three events, Princeton, Yale and Harvard have been the most successful in getting their swimmers into that coveted “A” final, which will be the key to claiming the Ivy crown. Overall, here are the Ups/Mids/Downs for Day One prelims:

500 Free: Brown 0/1/0, Columbia 0/1/1, Cornell 0/0/2, Dartmouth 2/0/1, Harvard 2/2/0, Penn 1/1/2, Princeton 0/3/0, Yale 3/0/2 – Penn senior and three-time Ivy champion in the 500 free, Shelby Fortin is looking to go out on a perfect four-for-four note. She turned in the top prelims time with 4:43.73. The next two fastest qualifiers are Eva Fabian of Yale with 4:47.06 and Sherry Liu of Harvard with 4:49.15. As expected, this is a big event for Yale, who even without Isla Hutchinson-Maddox (who had the League’s #3 time but will swim the 200 fly instead), still placed three in the “A” final: Casey Lincoln and Olivia Jameson. The Ivy record in this event is 4:38.96 (Alicia Aemisegger, Princeton, 2009).

200 IM: Brown 0/0/2, Columbia 2/2/1, Cornell 0/0/2, Dartmouth 0/0/1, Harvard 0/2/0, Penn 0/0/1, Princeton 5/1/0, Yale 1/3/1 – We expected this event to be a big point-winner for Yale, but Princeton surprised us with by placing five into the “A” final: Olivia Chan, Sada Stewart, Beverly Nguyen, Nikki Larson, and Mallory Remick. Top-seed Alena Kluge of Columbia went 1:58.87 in prelims to earn her spot in Lane 4 tonight. The Ivy record is 1:55.09 (Katie Meili, Columbia, 2013).
50 Free: Brown 1/1/2, Columbia 0/2/0, Cornell 1/0/2, Dartmouth 1/1/2, Harvard 2/1/0, Penn 1/1/2, Princeton 1/2/0, Yale 1/0/0 – Current Ivy record-holder, senior Lisa Boyce of Princeton has won the 50 free in each of the last two years and didn’t disappoint with her top qualifying swim of 22.40. Harvard’s Victoria Chan and Yale’s Kina Zhou qualified second and third, respectively. The Ivy record is 22.07 (Lisa Boyce, Princeton, 2013).
One-meter diving begins at 1:30; finals are at 6:00 p.m.
I think it’s important to show non-scoring swims in the table as well so it shows who has wasted a swim.
Looks to me that Harvard is best positioned to pick up diving points with five coming back tonight as compared to Princeton and Yale who both have 3.
It’d also be great to see the total number of swims per school. Thanks for the update!
