Day Three
Denver’s Bridgette McNally started things off with a new League record in the 400 IM. She had broken the previous record of 4:16.34, set by Oakland’s Vanessa Balogh in 2012, with her prelims swim of 4:16.18. She came back this evening and knocked another 2.7 seconds off to win in 4:13.46. Her teammate Clara Jenck was second and Andee Budahl of South Dakota State, third.
Led by Jeremiah Zgliczynski, Denver finished 1-2-3 in the men’s 400 IM. Zgliczynski broke the League record of 3:51.68 (Eddie Toro, Oakland, 2009) with an NCAA “B” cut of 3:49.09. Teammates Darian Brunetti and Lane Bretschneider took second and third.
Sam Corea of Denver won the 100 fly, having broken the pool record (formerly 53.97 from Oakland’s Sandra Czerska in 2009) with a 52.77 in prelims. Corea went 52.80 in finals; both she and teammate Drew Matthews, who placed second, made “B” cuts. Third went to Kate Paige of Eastern Illinois.
The men’s 100 fly featured a very tight race between the top three, with only .27 separating them. The winner was Kyle Milberg of Denver (48.02); his teammate Andrew Torres took second, and Chris Neaveill of Western Illinois was third. All three had “B” standards.
Morgan Mullenix of Denver won the women’s 200 free in 1:49.34. Nicole Grimit of South Dakota State finished second, while South Dakoka’s Samantha Schuttinger came in third.
Dylan Bunch led his teammates Luke Williams and Scott Bergstrom in a 1-2-3 sweep of the men’s 200 free. Bunch finished first in 1:37.70, while Williams and Bergstrom tied for second with 1:30.80.
Denver’s Amanda Sanders was the top women’s 100 breaststroker, finishing in a “B” standard time of 1:02.11. Jenny Oleksiak of IUPUI touched second, and Maddie Eyolfson of Denver was third.
Tanner Krall was the victor on the men’s side, leading teammates Tim Cottam and Travis Greenwald in a Denver sweep of the podium. Krall (54.78) and Cottam both achieved “B” cuts.
Denver’s Corea won her second event of the day with a 52.75 Summit League record in the 100 back. Teammate Johanna Roas was second, and IUPUI’s Lexi Laird, third. Corea and Roas both picked up “B” times.
Kyle Milberg (48.02) and Kyle Robrock of Denver went 1-2 in the 100 back, both under the “B” standard. Third went to Eastern Illinois’s Colin McGill.
In men’s one-meter diving, both number 1 Connor Florand of South Dakota State, with 326.75 points, and number 2 Cody Watts of IUPUI, with 314.70, broke the Summit League record. Third place went to Doug Ogilvie from Western Illinois.
The Denver women’s 400 medley relay team of Roas (53.87), Sanders (1:02.16), Corea (52.63), and Matthews (50.13) broke the Summit League record by four seconds, finishing in 3:38.79. IUPUI Jaguars took second and South Dakota State was third.
In the men’s relay, Denver wrapped up with a win over Western Illinois and IUPUI. Milberg, Krall, Andrew Torres, and Robrock combined for 3:14.18.
