2010 Pan Pacs Update: World Record Holder Hardy Scratches 100 Breaststroke

Jessica Hardy, who is the World and Meet Record holder in the 100 breaststroke at 1:04.45 and 1:06.43, respectively, has scratched the race for Day 2 of the Pan Pacs.

This is part of a new effort over the last year by Hardy to expand her prowess in the freestyle sprint events. She will be swimming the 100 freestyle, which is immediately before the 100 breaststroke, although her path to being in the top-2 Americans (and a berth in the A-final) would have been much easier in the breaststroke. Still, Hardy will challenge for gold in the 100 free, whereas she was unlikely to knock off teammate Rebecca Soni in the breaststroke
