#20 Will Scholtz Sends Verbal Commitment to Texas for 2023-24

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

High school junior Will Scholtz, the #20 recruit on our Way Too Early list of top boys from the high school class of 2023, has announced his intention to swim and study at the University of Texas in the class of 2027.

“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Texas at Austin. I want to thank Coach Mike and my parents for making me the person and swimmer I am today as well as my teammates for always supporting me. I also would like to thank Coach Wyatt and Coach Eddie for giving me this opportunity to swim on one of the best programs in the country. HOOK’EM! 🤘”

Scholtz lives in Prospect, Kentucky, and attends St. Xavier High School. The 6’8” sophomore won the 100 breast (54.73) and was third in the 200 IM (1:49.88) at last year’s 2021 Kentucky High School Swimming and Diving Championships. He also swam breast (24.99) on the winning 200 medley relay.

Scholtz swims year-round with Lakeside Swim Team and is an Olympic Trials qualifier in the 100/200 breaststrokes. He swam both events at Wave I in Omaha, finaling in the 200 with a blistering 2:16.43 to finish 10th overall. At Greensboro Sectionals in July, he got his 100 breast time down to 1:02.68 and was runner-up in both the 100/200 breast. He also finaled in the 200 IM (2:06.29 for 3rd place) and 100 back (59.56 for 25th). In addition to the 100 breast and 200 IM, he went PBs in the 50/100 free (25.05/53.41) in Greensboro.

Scholtz had an outstanding meet in March at the 2021 Kentucky Swimming LSC Senior Short Course Championships. He won the 100/200 breast and 200 IM and placed 5th in the 100 free, 6th in the 200 back, and 8th in the 500 free, earning PBs in the 100 free, 200 back, both breaststrokes, and 200 IM.

He was a member of the USA Junior Team that competed at FINA World Cup in Berlin and Budapest in October.

Best SCY times:

  • 400 IM – 3:53.45
  • 200 IM – 1:48.57
  • 200 breast – 1:58.32
  • 100 breast – 54.45
  • 200 back – 1:50.14
  • 100 back – 53.11
  • 100 free – 46.19

Scholtz’s IM and breast times will make him a great training partner for #3 Nate Germonprez, who has also verbally committed to the Longhorns for 2023-24.

This kid was a 6’3 twelve year old! I heard he won races because he was big back then… glad to see he is doing well now! I wonder what the weather is like up there for him? He should play basketball. #thugs up in here 🤣.

Texas has been racking up some impressive recruits the past few months!

Whether Eddie continues to coach or not, the program seems to be ‘on track’
for at least the next 3-4 years, i.e., thru the Paris Olympics. . . .
