Spencer Jyawook of Franklin, Tennessee has committed to swim for Saint Leo this fall.
Saint Leo University has received a verbal commitment from Nashville Aqautics Club’s Spencer Jyawook for the 2020-2021 season.

At the 2019 TISCA Tennessee State Championships, Jyawook made it back to finals in his 2 events, the 100 free and the 100 fly. Jyawook – who swims for Independence High School – ended up fourth in the 100 free, going a personal best time of 46.12 in the prelims heats. This best time came right after a nail-biting win in the 100 fly against Sevier County’s Thomas Horne. Horne led the field after the first 50, turning at 22.98, followed closely by Jyawook’s 23.01. Jyawook overtook Horne in the second 50, securing the gold medal with a time of 49.35, 0.14 seconds ahead of Horne.
Jyawook recently earned two gold medals and a bronze medal at the USA Swimming Futures Championships in Greensboro. He earned his first gold of the meet in the 50 free. His time of 23.43 was less than a tenth of a second faster than Josiah Morales’ time. Jyawook later powered to the wall a half second ahead of Tucker Burhans in the 100 fly (55:39), earning his second title of the meet. Both swims were personal best times that qualified Jyawook for the 2019 Winter US Open.

Jyawook’s best times would have placed him in the B-final in the 100 back and fly and the 500 free, and just outside of B-final in 200 free at the 2019 Sunshine State Conference Championships. When he joins Saint Leo’s men’s swimming program in the fall, he will be the team’s second fastest 50, 100 and 200 freestyler behind rising senior Fridtjov Mork. In addition, he will be the fastest 500 freestyler and 100 butterflier for the lions.
