19 Top 25 Affairs on Tap, #1 USC Begins Play on Men’s Water Polo Week 2

Week 2 of collegiate men’s water polo action began on Monday with a pair of contests, which saw vote getter Navy and Salem come up victorious. Mt. SAC and McKendree picked up wins on Tuesday. Two matches are scheduled for Wednesday evening.

Still remaining on the week’s slate are 19 head-to-head matchups between teams listed on the Sept. 11 Top 20 poll.

Action continues in earnest on Friday with the first of three days of action at tournaments in Princeton, New Jersey; and Erie, Pennsylvania. #2 Stanford also tangles with #18 San Jose State.

The Princeton Tiger Invitational competition includes #9 UC San Diego, #12 Princeton, #14 Bucknell, #17 St. Francis Brookyln, #19 Brown and vote getters Santa Clara and Navy. The event will feature nine contests between ranked foes.

The Laker Invitational in Erie, Pennsylvania, will pit Washington & Jefferson, Salem, Penn State Behrend and Mt. San Antonio against the hosts from Mercyhurst.

On Saturday, action heats up in California with the WWPA/GCC Challenge Cup in Los Angeles, the Inland Empire Classic in Claremont, and the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto.

The WWPA/GCC Challenge Cup will feature four matches with each pairing Top 20 foes as #8 Pepperdine, #9 UC Irvine, #16 Loyola Marymount and #20 Cal Baptist face off.

The Inland Empire Classic will feature Top 10 teams in #1 USC, #4 UC Santa Barbara and #7 Long Beach State.

#1 USC kicks off its 2019 campaign at the tournament, facing Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Whittier on Saturday and taking on #4 UC Santa Barbara and Concordia (Irvine) on Sunday.

The Stanford Invitational will see two Top 20 contests, with #3 Stanford/#18 San Jose State on Friday and San Jose State taking on #2 UCLA on Saturday. The remainder of the tournament includes exhibition games with S.D. Pro Recco and the Olympic Club.
