#18 Recruit in Class of 2016 Lauren Case Chooses Texas

Lauren Case Texas Commit

Lauren Case has verbally committed to the Teas Longhorns.

The 18th-ranked recruit in the high school class of 2016Lauren Case, has verbally committed to the Texas Longhorns. This marks the first commitment we’ve received for Carol Capitani’s team this fall.

“Texas was the perfect combination of swimming and academics for me,” the Chattahoochee Gold (Georgia) swimmer said. “I fell in love with the school on my visit, and I can’t wait to be a part of such an amazing group of girls.”

Case is primarily a butterflier and earned her spot on the National Junior Team and Junior World Championships Team in the 100 fly, 200 fly, and 200 free.

Her best times in yards/long course meters are below:

  • 50 free – 23.59/26.52
  • 100 free – 50.37/57.04
  • 200 free – 1:45.96/1:59.67
  • 500y/400m free – 4:44.57/4:15.28
  • 100 back – 55.92/1:05.02
  • 200 back – 2:0.76/2:21.99
  • 100 fly – 52.81/59.40
  • 200 fly – 1:56.31/2:11.06
  • 200 IM – 2:05.26/2:23.77
  • 400 IM – 4:20.63/5:10.59

There are four events in which Case has already qualified for the 2016 Olympic Trials (bolded above): the 200 and 400 meter frees, and the 100 and 200 meter butterflies.

At this past summer’s World Junior Championships in Singapore, Case came up short of the medals stand with a top individual placing of 10th in the women’s 100 meter fly semi-finals. She did, however, earn a bronze medal as a prelims member of the 400 medley relay where she swam the fly leg in heats before being swapped out for Cassidy Bayer in the final.

As to why she made her decision so early in the process, Case said that “With my college decision completed, I am ready to get back to training to be able to compete as best I can at Olympic Trials next summer. I am going to enjoy senior year as much as I can, and make the most of this last year with my family, friends, and teammates.”

Besides looking ahead to the Olympic Trials, in the spring Case will be trying to three-peat as the Georgia 6A (big schools) state champion in the 200 free, and repeat as the champion in the 100 fly for Woodstock High School.

Probably the best pure flyer in the class, in my opinion should be a little higher on the recruit ranking list due to her nearly uncontested fly speed as well as her versatility. Regardless, great pickup for the Longhorns!

Whatever the ranking she’s a great addition to the Longhorns. Congrats. Hook em!
