#15 Kayla Wilson Announces Verbal Commitment to Stanford’s Class of 2026

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

High school junior Kayla Wilson from Virginia Beach, Virginia, the #15 recruit on our list of top girls from the high school class of 2022, has announced her verbal commitment to Stanford University.

“So blessed and excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at Stanford University!! Thank you to my family, coaches, teammates, and friends for all of your support. Go Card!!🌲❤️”

Wilson swims for Norfolk Academy and Tide Swimming and is a freestyle specialist. She qualified for Olympic Trials Wave II in the 200m free at Pro Swim Series – Indianapolis, going 1:59.54 to place 10th. She also scored PBs in the 400m free (4:23.15) and 100m back (1:02.76). At Trials, she competed the 50/100/200 free, making semi-finals in the 200 and earning PBs in the 50 (25.91) and 100 (55.68).

Last November, competing at the NOVA Senior Holiday Championships, Wilson swam lifetime bests in the 200 free and 500 free. Her 200 time was a personal best by 1.3 seconds and broke a 33-year old LSC record in the event. Wilson notched PBs in the 50/100 free and 100/200 back in March at the Virginia Swimming Senior Championships. There, she won the 100/200 free, was runner-up in the 50 free, and placed 3rd in the 200 back and 4th in the 500 free and 100 back.

Best SCY times:

  • 50 free – 23.03
  • 100 free – 49.30
  • 200 free – 1:44.90
  • 500 free – 4:47.37
  • 100 back – 55.28
  • 200 back – 1:58.05

A dual citizen of the United States and Canada, Wilson is eligible to represent both countries internationally. She told SwimSwam that she considered swimming at both countries’ Trials meets, but Canada’s 14-day quarantine policy made her rethink that strategy and, in the end, she only raced at U.S. Trials.

Wilson is the fourth public verbal commitment to the Cardinal. She will join Gigi Johnson, Kirsti McEnroe, and Sophie Duncan in the class of 2026.

Stanford has a great women’s team. The men’s team needs a lot of work though.

I believe Kayla can swim for USA or Canada.Did she attend trials in either country?

She attended US Trials. She said she would’ve thought about doing both, but the 14-day quarantine in Canada knocked that out of contention.

There are 3 remaining uncommitted Top 20, who are all in the Top 10: Curzan, Hook, and Bell. Would they announce before or after the Olympics?

Lucy Bell just made an announcement to join Stanford 2022 class. Waiting for Hook and Curzan. Don’t know what she will decide, but Curzan has the Okynpic game ahead of her, she probably wants to stay focus on that for now.

Cal has one of their largest freshmen classes in history starting this school year, at something like 13 women. So I’m assuming this years class would need to be smaller.

Are any of those recruits in the top 20? It just seems like tides are changing.
