Puerto Rico’s 14-year-old phenom Miriam Sheehan just produced her 2nd senior national record in as many days while competing at the World Junior Championships in Budapest.

Sheehan had already thrown down a new record of 29.02 in last night’s semi-finals of the 50m backstroke, but she then took on the 50m fly final this evening, which she rocked once again.

The teen had already broken her own Puerto Rican National Record in heats of the women’s 50m fly and then lowered it again to 26.74 in the semi-final to claim the 5th seed headed into tonight’s final. Her effort from the semi’s represented just Sheehan’s 2nd time ever under the 27-second barrier in the event, along with her prelims time.

Tonight in the final, Sheehan fired off a time of 26.67 to lower her record by another .07 and finish 5th in the 50m fly final at just 14 years of age. Winning the race was American Tori Huske in 25.70, while Belarusian Anastasiya Shkurdai took silver in 25.77 and American Claire Curzan earned bronze in 25.81.

Sheehan was formerly under American nationality before representing Puerto Rico. As a 10&U swimmer, Sheehan was an unstoppable force and broke numerous NAGs in both SCY and LCM pools. Her 7 NAGs in the fly/back events have yet to be broken today. If Sheehan were still to represent the USA, she would have been the 2nd-fastest 14-year-old 50 fly performer in the last decade.

In the last year, Sheehan has made her mark in the Puerto Rican national age and senior records. She currently holds five SCM and nine LCM 13-14 age group records in sprint free/fly/back. Along with her 50 fly national record, Sheehan also holds the 50 back LCM record at 29.24.

Is she still living in the mainland U.S.? She wouldn’t have moved to P.R., especially not post-hurricane… right?
