After three days of competition, the Rice Owls remained the sure winners at this weekend’s women’s only Phill Hansel Invite:

The third session started off with Oregon State’s Sammy Harrison getting her second individual win of the meet in the 1650, touching in 16:21.00, which was good for a NCAA “B” cut. Second and third place was a battle between Houston’s Delia Weber and Rice’s Hanna Huston.
The mile was followed by a fast final heat in the 200 back, where the top four swimmers finished under the NCAA provisional standards. Rice’s Alicia Caldwell was the winner, touching in 1:57.19. Solie Laughlin of UC Davis was also under th 1:58 mark, with a time of 1:57.52. This was an improvement of over two seconds off of her time in the prelims earlier that day. The Cougars had a swimmer to finished in the top three as well in Eleanna Koutsouveli.
UC Davis continued to have a strong showing in the sprint free events, taking both second and third in the 100 free with Mia Facey (50.82) and Courtney Schultz (50.84). Mia Schachter from Tulane was the only woman to be under 50 on the day, finishing in 49.98; which is 1/100 under the provisional cut.
Like the 200 back, the 200 breast saw half of the “A” final earning their provisional cuts. The North Texas Mean Green saw their first individual event win with Claudia Kitching touching in 2:13.51. This time was also good for the second fastest time in program history. She was followed by Ashley Grijalva of Houston and Cara Jernigan of Idaho.
Senior from New Mexico State, Dorottya Lennert won the women’s 200 fly. She touched in 1:59.28 an was the only swimmer in the water under the two minute mark and to earn a “B” cut. She was followed by Sharo Rodriguez Rivera and Caroline Culpepper of Houston and North Texas, respectively.
In the final event of the weekend, UC Davis pulled off an exciting win, touching in 3:22.55 in the 400 relay with the team of: Facey, Brittany Rojo, Schultz, and Kristen Brand. Second place went to Rice and third place was to Tulane.
