Day 2 of the Greensboro Futures meet saw more young talent shine through. 13-Year-Old Gabrielle Vanbrunt (Georgia Coastal Aquatic Team) won the women’s 100 fly with a 1:00.49, beating her previous best over a second. In Addition to qualifying Vanbrunt for next Summer’s Olympic Trials, her time sits as one of the all-time fastest by a 13-year-old. According to the SWIMS database, it’s the 4th fastest time by a 13-year-old all-time. It needs to be taken into consideration that the SWIMS database can be unreliable when searching for single-age times. For example, Mary T. Meagher is missing from the list, and there’s a very real possibility that she was faster than 1:00.49 as a 13-year-old.

Nashville Aquatic Club’s Spencer Jyawook clocked a 55.39 to win the men’s 100 fly. Jyawook undercut his previous best time of 55.66, which he had set back in June. 14-Year-Old Julia Podkoscielny (Pine Crest Swimming) won the women’s 400 IM by nearly 3 seconds. Podkoscielny finished in a speedy 4:50.42, marking a gigantic 11 second drop from her previous best time of 5:01.34. Even more impressive, her previous best time was from July 20th, just 2 weeks ago. Podkoscielny also got the 2020 Olympic Trials cut, which sits at 4:51.79.

men’s 1500 champion Lance Norris (Unattached Tac Titans), 16, also won the men’s 400 IM. Norris narrowly beat his previous best of 4:27.27, clocking a 4:27.23. 27-Year-Old Cameron Conners (Huntsville Swim Association) won the men’s 100 breast in 1:03.63. His time was just off his best of 1:03.01, which he swam back at the 2016 Olympic Trials. 17-Year-old Masy Folcik (Rockford Riptide) won the women’s 100 breast by over a second. Folcik swam a 1:11.54 in finals, after touching in 1:11.50 in prelims. Her best time coming into the meet was 1:12.31.

Northwestern’s Robert Cecil, 20, took home a victory in the men’s 200 free, swimming a 1:52.43. The swim marked a significant drop for Cecil, whose previous best was 1:54.13, and was set back in 2016. Savannah Barr, a 17-year-old from Sarasota Sharks, won the women’s 200 free by a second. Barr touched in 2:02.61. With that swim, she dropped nearly 3 seconds from her previous best of 2:05.28, which she had just swum back in March of this year.
