#11 Victoria Edwards to Remain In-State; Gives Verbal to Longhorns

Victoria Edwards, a senior at Westlake High School in Austin, Texas, has made a verbal commitment to swim for the University of Texas 2017-18.

Edwards was the 11th-ranked swimmer on our Top 20 list for the high school class of 2017. She is an outstanding backstroke/butterflier and is already close to scoring range at NCAAs. Edwards won the 100 fly (52.93) and placed third in the 100 back (53.87) at the 2016 Texas 6A State Championships, contributing largely to their 6A title. She led off Westlake’s state-champion medley relay in 25.64 and swam a 50.73 leg in their winning 400 free relay.

Edwards swims year-round for Longhorn Aquatics. She competed at 2016 Olympic Trials in the 100 back, 100 fly, and 200 fly, then went on to swim lifetime bests in the 100/200/400 free and 400 IM at the USA Swimming Futures Championships in Austin in August. Her best times are:

  SCY LCM
50 back 25.05 30.74
100 back 53.30 1:03.11
200 back 1:57.79 2:17.30
100 fly 52.74 59.87
200 fly 1:56.08 2:11.32
200 IM 2:00.85 2:21.73

Edwards will represent a changing of the guards at Texas, where perennial conference scorers Madisyn Cox and Jordan Surhoff (IM), Maggie D’Innocenzo and Brynne Wong (fly), and Tasija Karosas and Rebecca Baxley (back) have held court for the last several years. She will join a strong fly group led by Remedy Rule and a back group led by Quinn Carrozza, both sophomores this season.

Edwards is a great “keep” for the Longhorns. Her top 200 fly time would have won 2016 Big 12s and set a conference record, and her 100 fly and 100 back would have scored second, behind current junior Mimi Schneider and Karosas, respectively.
