Yannick Agnel Out of Day 1 at Mesa Grand Prix

With the release of this morning’s heat sheets for the 2014 Mesa Grand Prix, we see that Yannick Agnel has scratched out of the first day of the meet. This jives with reports from our two photographers on deck, Mike Lewis and Rafael Domeyko, who while shooting NBAC’s warm-up session on Wednesday didn’t notice the French megalith with their elite group.

The French swimmer, who is coming off of his National Championship week back home two weeks ago, and while he’s back in the states already according to his social media accounts, he hasn’t yet arrived (if he will at all) in Mesa, Arizona.

He was scheduled to swim the 100 and 400 freestyles on Thursday. He still has entries in the 400 IM, 50 free, 200 IM, and 1500 free if he plans to simply be a late arrival to the meet, though early on Thursday morning Mesa time we’ve been unable to track down any confirmation of his plans for the rest of the weekend.

If Agnel wins up missing the whole weekend, he will likely be knocked out of a tie for 1st in the overall season Grand Prix standings. He’s currently tied with teammate Conor Dwyer, who is racing in Mesa, for the top spot.
