World #2 Daniel Gyurta Scratched Out of Prelims in Men’s 100 Breast at SC Worlds

Hungarian Daniel Gyurta is all-over-the-map on his breaststrokes. This summer, in long course, he infamously dropped the 200 breast at the European Championships to focus on the 100. The 200 breast is an event that Gyurta simply doesn’t lose – including as the defending Olympic Champion and three-time defending World Champion.

Now, in Doha, at the 2014 World Short Course Championships, he’s dropped the 100 breaststroke from his schedule on the meet’s first day.

Coming into the meet, Gyurta ranked 2nd in the world in 2014 with a 56.87 – which would have been the fastest time in prelims.
