WKU Swim and Dive Closes Regular Season with Quad Meet

One final regular-season meet remains for the Western Kentucky University swimming and diving team, as the Hilltoppers and Lady Toppers take on Marshall, Vanderbilt and University of the Cumberlands this weekend at Bill Powell Natatorium.

The quad meet begins at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24 before concluding at noon on Saturday. Before Saturday’s competition begins, WKU will honor its 11 seniors with Senior Day recognition.

The 11 seniors consist of Hilltoppers Louis Bunch, Elliot Lorson, Heitor Rodrigues, Neal Rushing and Richard Russell along with Lady Toppers Aiste Dobrovolskaite, Victoria Frascino, Amy Halligan, Samantha Holmes, Natalie Lenderman and Courtney Marx.

Last time out, WKU swept the competition in a meet with Florida Atlantic on Jan. 11 in Boca Raton, Fla. The Lady Toppers claimed a 155-88 victory over FAU while on the men’s side, the Hilltoppers edged FAU 132-105.

The divers were most recently in the water, competing against Clemson and College of Charleston Jan. 18 in South Carolina. Giorgi Meyer swept all three boards while Amy Crayne’s efforts earned her Conference USA Diver of the Week honors for the fourth time this season.

After Saturday, the teams will have approximately one month to prepare for Conference USA Championships. The competition begins Wednesday, Feb. 26 and ends Saturday, March 1 in Atlanta. WKU is looking to become the first team on The Hill to win a C-USA championship, as WKU will join as a full member in July 2014. Both men’s and women’s teams are affiliates of the league.

WKU also looks to send swimmers to the NCAA Championships and National Invitational Tournament. Three divers have guaranteed their spot at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in Meyer, Crayne and Madison Rylee.
