WATCH: Michael Jensen Narrowly Misses Shields’ 200 FR Nat’l HS Record

Michael Jensen of Upper Dublin (in the black cap) swam a huge 1:33.90 tonight in the 200 free, just .07 off of Tom Shields‘ public (as well as overall) high school record. In the above video, listen for the audible gasps from the crowd at his 50 and 100 splits.

JENSEN’S SPLITS:

21.23 – 23.17 – 24.58 – 24.92

Out in an incredibly fast 44.40, Jensen held it together at the end for a new best time by over a whole second. His previous best was a 1:34.93 from Jr Nationals this past December.

It looks as though Jensen actually breathed into the wall on his finish. He was clearly fatigued at the finish of the race after going out as fast as he did, but if he can work on his splitting to ensure a smarter back half, he can continue to chip away at his time.

If you watch old videos of David Nolan’s destruction of state champs, you will hear the same gasps. PA carries some pretty knowledgeable swim fans.

1:32 if he splits that better. 45/47. Guy next to him must have been moving as well, around a 1:35?
