Miami’s Whitten University Center Pool Grand Opening (Video)

The University of Miami pool has undergone a $1.8 million renovation, and, after a semester of carpooling to other facilities in the city, the Hurricanes are finally home for practice.

The new Whitten University Center Pool is a long course Myrtha facility with new filtration systems, heating/cooling systems, gutters, lane lines, lighting, and starting blocks.

“Take a look, take a moment and imagine the great things that are going to happen here and what they’re going to prepare us for,” head coach Andy Kershaw tells his swimmers in the video. “Part of our legacy, though many have come before and many will come after, is that we’re going to be the first ones in this pool as it is. All right, so have a lot of pride in that and carry on the tradition.”

The university (which sponsors women’s swimming, women’s diving, and men’s diving) is 3-3 in dual competition this season. They also finished fifth at the Ohio State Invitational in December.

The team will jump back into action tomorrow against the University of Kansas and Rutgers University with their first home meet in the new pool.
