VIDEO: One Year Later – a Tribute to John Servati

Today marks one year since the passing of Alabama swimmer John Servati, who was killed during a severe storm last April.

It was reported at the time that Servati was taking refuge in a friend’s basement when a retaining wall collapsed. Servati pushed his girlfriend out of the way – she was unharmed, but he was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

At the one year anniversary of Servati’s untimely passing, one of his teammates has composed a tribute video, a spoken-word poem of sorts, to honor Servati’s memory.

You can watch the video above, courtesy of user Edward Imaginative on YouTube. It’s a very heartfelt tribute to a swimmer who clearly made a lasting impression on his Crimson Tide teammates, his family and his friends.

The video also explains a painting that was commissioned to honor Servati. You can view the painting, and purchase prints of it, at this link. You can view more work from it’s artist, David Patel, here.

In addition, you can still honor Servati’s memory by donating to the John Servati Memorial Scholarship Fund. You can done online at this link.

This past weekend in Johns hometown Tupelo, Shockwave Aquatics held a fantastic Memorial meet for him. Moving words from his parents and Coach Lucas. Proud to be a coach in MS LSC.
