UIndy Hires Minnesota’s Ashley Steenvoorden As First Full Time Assistant In Program History

Going into his first year as the new head coach at the University of Indianapolis, Jason Hite has already making changes to the program. His first major change is the addition of the first full time assistant coach in program history. Minnesota stand out Ashley Steenvoorden will join Hite to serve as the new assistant coach.

Steenvoorden was a US National champion in the women’s 400 freestyle in 2011 and went on to earn a spot on the 2013 World University games roster. As a member of the US World University Games team in 2013, she won a silver medal in the 1500m free and bronze medal in the 800m free.

“I am excited to have Ashley on staff at UIndy,” said Hite. “Her experience at the college and world levels will be an asset to getting the program to the top of DII swimming and diving.”

Since graduating with an Elementary Education degree from the University of Minnesota in 2012, Steenvorden has been very active within the swimming community. She spent the previous two years as an assistant with the Minnetonka Swim Club while also spending the 2014-15 season both as the head coach of the Fridley High School team and a volunteer coach at her alma mater.

“I am honored and excited to be a part of the UIndy Family,” she said. “I look forward to helping the program grow and reach the next level. Go Hounds!”
