UBC Leads Men’s And Women’s Rankings As CIS Championships Approach

With less then a month away from the CIS Championships the CIS released their weekly rankings, and as the championship meet approaches there is more and more merit to rankings.

In both the men’s and women’s rankings, the UBC Thunderbirds lead the way. They’re looking for a repeat win on the women’s side and the chance to challenge the University of Toronto men, so they’re in a very good place heading into the meet.

Focusing on the men’s rankings, it’s UBC followed by U of T. Alberta and the University of Victoria are behind the two powerhouses in the rankings ahead of the University of Calgary. Last season, Victoria was seventh and Alberta eighth at the championships with the Calgary Dinos grabbing the third spot behind UBC and UofT. Currently, Calgary is ranked fifth. McMaster University, one of the most well-rounded teams in the CIS is currently tied for ninth after a fourth place showing at the championships last season.

With the women UBC is very far ahead of the remainder of the schools in the CIS. Last season they won by a landslide and it appears that there’s plenty of potential for similar results to take place this season as well. Right behind them is the consistently growing University of Montreal, a team which boasts many top swimmers in the nation. Toronto is ranked third with Calgary ranked fourth.

The CIS Championships will take place in Victoria, B.C February 19th-22nd.
