Well, that’s honesty. Clary knows what he needs to do and is the first to throw himself under a bus if there is something to work on. He’ll be fine. You also can’t just train 50 weeks a year and show up to race twice. The racing circuit is also a grind and I don’t think Clary’s issue right now is fitness. More like fatigue. If Lochte showed up he would have looked a bit off as well, but he had the sensibility to take the day away.

At some point, if you are going to swim a 4IM, you have to train. Trying to do SC Worlds, have a holiday break, go to Austin, go to Australia, go to Orlando, there is no block of time to train. IMO, not very well thought out plan on Tyler, Coach Marsh or Frank Busch’s part. I think there are too many racing opportunities with money on the line and if there is pressure to do them by money or by those in authority, it is not good for the end result.

Maybe someone can pass on your advice to Coach Marsh and help him out. He’s disappointed because he is a tireless competitor – with all the issues you outlined I doubt anyone, including Tyler, expected much else.

I know he gets flack from some folks on these boards… but… I really like Clary. He’s gritty.
