Tyler Clary Aims for IndyCar Cred, Gold Medal Minute Video

Tyler Clary, 2012 London Olympic gold medalist, is more than a champion backstroker. He races cars, and loves it. It is his passion.

We know Clary from his years of swimming in Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte’s shadow. That was his place. We could count on Clary collecting the silver or bronze medal, until the London Olympics, where he stunned the crowd in the 200 backstroke, surging past the defending Olympic Champion, Ryan Lochte, to win the event in the final 15 meters.

Now an Olympic star, Clary’s taken a step back and considered his future, and he’d like racing cars to be a part of it. While Michael Phelps works on his golf game on the Haney Project, and Lochte stars on his E! reality series, Clary is on the race track getting as much experience in as he can.

For now, racing cars remains secondary. Swimming will continue to be his focus. Clary’s sights are firmly set on the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

Does anyone know how he did in the Long Beach race a week or two ago?

I saw him on TMZ and they introduced him as a ‘race car driver’ and were oblivious to his swimming exploits.

That’s a shame if true. Race car drivers are a dime a dozen, I would put way more value on his Olympic gold.
