Tar Heels to dual ACC Champion Hokies

The North Carolina men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are slated to host the Virginia Tech Hokies this Saturday at 5 p.m. at Koury Natatorium.

The matchup will feature the defending ACC champion Virginia Tech men’s team against a Tar Heel team that finished third last year in the conference meet. UNC’s women finished second in last year’s ACC meet while Virginia Tech was fifth a year ago.

One of the highlights of the meet promises to be the matchup between the veteran Virginia Tech diving corps which was especially key to its ACC championship victory a year ago and the up-and-coming group of UNC divers which have performed extremely well against Tennessee and Georgia, winning seven of eight events.

To date, UNC has split dual meets with Southeastern Conference powers Tennessee and Georgia. Carolina beat the Volunteers (204-96 women and 170-130 men) and lost to the defending NCAA champion Georgia on the women’s side 164-136 while the Tar Heels men lost a tight one, 155-145.

The Carolina women are 7-0 all-time against the Hokies while UNC’s men will seek to avenge last year’s lost at Virginia Tech. Carolina leads the all-time men’s series 27-1.

As always, admission is free for all meets at Koury Natatorium.
