Simone Manuel, Haley Ishimatsu Win Swimmer, Diver of the Month Honors in Pac-12

Stanford freshman Simone Manuel has won the second Pac-12 Swimmer of the Month award in her short, but already illustrious, career with the Cardinal.

In January, Manuel won 9 out of 11 events and set Avery Aquatic Center Pool Records in both the 50 and 200 yard frees against USC. In total, she won the  200-, 100- and 50- yard freestyles against Arizona, the 400 medley relay and 200 IM against Arizona State, the 50-free and 400-free relay against UCLA, and the 200- (1:44.34) and 50-yard (22.24) freestyle races against USC.

Next up for Manuel and the 3rd-ranked Stanford women is a dual meet against #2 Cal, their arch-rivals, in Berkeley.

Meanwhile, USC’s Haley Ishimatsu earned her third career Diver of the Month after a successful January of her own. She won the 3-meter and platform events at the high level Bruin Diving Invitational, then swept the springboards against both Cal and Stanford – which in both cases included beating NCAA Championship-caliber divers.

Also Nominated:

Swimming: Farida Osman, CAL; Sammy Harrison, OSU; Katy Campbell, UCLA; Stina Colleou, UTAH;

Diving: Mara Aiacoboae, ASU; Annika Lenz, UCLA; Amanda Casillas, UTAH
