Second win for Hungary, Greece, Serbia and Italy in Men’s WPWL

Powerhouses Hungary, Greece, Serbia and Italy won their respective matches of the second round of the FINA Water Polo World League 2016 on Tuesday November 17, giving them all 6 points for winning both matches (round 1 + round 2).

In Kecskemet (HUN), the Hungarian squad (Group A) defeated Romania 16-8, while World bronze medallist Greece was stronger than Georgia (18-10) in Athens (GRE).

In Group B, reigning World and World League champions Serbia won by one point the match against the Spanish squad (13-12) in Novi Sad (SRB), while the match France-Montenegro was cancelled and postponed (date TBC), due to the recent tragic events in Paris.

The Croatian players easily defeated Russia by 17-9 at home in Zadar (CRO) on Tuesday evening and Italy, who received Turkey in Rome (ITA), got a comfortable win (14-4).

The composition of the European Groups of the 2016 Men’s World League is as follows:

Group A: Hungary, Greece, Romania, Georgia
Group B: Serbia, Montenegro, Spain, France
Group C: Croatia, Italy, Russia, Turkey

Provisional rankings:
GROUP A: HUN 6pts (2W); GRE 6 (2W); GEO 0 (2L); ROU 0 (2L)
GROUP B: SRB 6pts (2W); MNE 3 (1W)*; FRA 0 (1L)*; ESP 0 (2L)
GROUP C: CRO 6pts (2W); ITA 6pts (2W); TUR 0 (2L); RUS 0 (2L)

*the two teams didn’t play the second round yet, the match has been postponed.

The third round of the men’s European preliminaries will take place on December 1, 2015.
