RACE VIDEO: Watch Caeleb Dressel Break 17-18 NAG Record, Win NCAA Title, in 50 Free

On night 1 of the 2015 Men’s NCAA Swimming & diving Championships, Florida Gator Caeleb Dressel swam an 18.67 to re-break his own National Age Group Record, move to 6th in the all-time rankings (7th-best performance), and win his first NCAA title.

Above, the University of Florida’s official athletics site has posted a video of Dressel’s race. What’s striking is that Dressel had the longest underwater both off the start and the turn, which marks another piece of the puzzle for how long sprinters really should stay underwater in the pure-speed 50.

This was the first 50 free NCAA title in Florida men’s program history.

Terrific swim!
And I think he can even go faster on a couple small things — it looked like he had a slight “glide” into the turn (if that’s even possible going 18.6). And it looks like he broke out a split-second late after surfacing off the start. What an explosive athlete.

Curious how tall Caleb Dressel is, and the others in this heat.
Excellent swims by all 8 of these men!
Nice start at top of screen (I thought the lane was empty at first!).

I think a 21 high will be achievable this year, he still has to break 22.. and where would he do that? He will go to Jr World ou any other major LCM this year?

Last year there was two schools that went 3:05 in 400 medley relay, this year there was 6! I was just thinking about this because how cool would it be to see the Bolles guys swim the relays together here? Maybe someone could convince them to do a 200 free relay time trial after the meet is done. they would probably go like 1:15 something.

That’s going to translate well to the big pool this summer.

Impressive list this guy just joined, freshmen 50 freestyle champion. Not too many names come to mind, but they are all pretty big.
