Katie Ledecky started off her individual schedule at the Metro Championships with a National Independent Record in the 200 freestyle (1:42.96) and followed it up with an overall National High School Record in the 500 (4:31.38), the third fastest performance all time. She talked to Matt Rees and the Washington Post shortly after the meet.

Very level headed kid with a bright future. Hopefully she can make her college choice carefully so she can continue to succeed even though she’s already faster than all of the college swimmers as a SOPHOMORE IN HIGH SCHOOL.
