PHOTO VAULT: 2014 Mesa Grand Prix Day 0 Sights on Deck (Part 1)

SwimSwam has arrived at the 2014 Mesa Grand Prix, and Mike Lewis has already been on deck to snap a few shots of swimmers as they prepare to the beginning of the meet tomorrow.

This is part one, as Mike is still processing more photos, and we hope to put together another vault later in the evening. Here’s a little warmup from the most anticipated swimmer at this meet.

And finally, just for good measure, a meeting of Michael Phelps and Michael Andrew, who are still slated to swim against each other in the 50 free prelims side-by-side. Prior to Andrew turning pro last year, Phelps had been the youngest known American swimmer to become a professional.

For the first time ever, Michael Phelps (left) and Michael Andrew (right) will swim not only in the same meet, but in the same heat, this weekend in Mesa.

MA wears probably shoes but he still looks giant on the photo.
MP looks very small in front of him.

MA looks gigantic. He is at least taller than MP.

Possible. Kris Humpries, who also broke amazing 11-12 NAG records before he was lured into playing basketball, is now 6’9″.

He is still a good inch shorter then his dad, and his mom also brings some incredibly athletic genes to the mix as well. MA does a pre race routine where he slaps his upper body….if you are anywhere close you can really hear it, it is solid, I mean really really solid! Like hitting a big punching bag, I shook his hand in Clearwater after one of his phenomenal races and it engulfed mine, literally engulfed it completely…..he is 15!!!! But what is the most impressive part of MA is the size of his heart…….you should see how he interacts with the younger kids, the things the cameras do not catch, MA is the real deal, and he handles… Read more »

He is wearing a blue Arena diamond drag in the photo. My son figured that out in no time.

waited ALL DAY for that press conference…and now watching the replay again haha

more than anything else…I LOVE that he is so happy. Swimming is fun because you get to see your friends during practice..and he finally gets that…and without all the pressure.

I’m so happy that he is happy. Congrats Michael! Can’t wait to see what you do…and no matter what, you are still the GOAT!
