OT Qualifier Sofie Underdahl of TFA Commits to Louisville Cardinals

The Louisville Cardinal women have been stitching together an incredibly talented class of 2020, and that class is now strengthened by TFA’s Sofie Underdahl.

Underdahl excels in the backstroke and breaststroke events, a fairly uncommon pairing of strokes. A look at her best times below:

Underdahl’s Best Times (LCM in parentheses)

  • 100 breast – 1:05.38 (1:13.05)
  • 200 breast – 2:19.35 (2:34.87**)
  • 100 back – 55.89 (1:04.65)
  • 200 back – 2:00.76 (2:18.56)

** Denotes Olympic Trials cut

Underdahl has Winter Juniors cuts in all of her yards bests besides her 100 breast, while her 100 breast and 200 back in long course were under this past summer’s Junior National cuts. Her 200 breast in long course, meanwhile, is an Olympic Trials cut.

Louisville has, with the rise of Kelsi Worrell, demanded national attention as a developing perennial power. They’ve built up dominant relays around the American record holder in the 100y fly, and are continuing to demonstrate the strength of their program with the kind of commitments they’ve been getting this year.

Underdahl would’ve made the C final in last year’s ACC Champs in the 200 backstroke, and would’ve been on the brink of C final appearances in the 100 back and 200 breast. Louisville has the top end talent, but their roster last year wasn’t as deep as they probably would’ve liked. Underdahl will provide them with options for backstroke or breaststroke, and looks ready to score at the ACC Champ level in her freshman season.

Underdahl joins Avery Braunecker, Casey Fanz, Grace Oglesby, Jillian Visscher, and Maggie Jahns in the Cards’ class of 2020.
