Michigan’s Lydia Mattar Signs with Lady Cardinals of Saginaw Valley State

Lydia Mattar of Liquid Lightning has signed a letter of intent to swim for Saginaw Valley State University beginning in the fall of 2015. Mattar is from Lake Orion, Michigan and attends Lake Orion High School.

At the 2014 MHSAA Girls D1 Swim & Dive Championships held last weekend at Eastern Michigan, Mattar ended her high school career on a high note with two personal bests. She placed 13th in the 200 IM, going 2:08.50, which is four seconds faster than last year. She then took sixth in the 100 breast. Her prelims time of 1:05.34 was her fastest by a second.

Mattar’s best events include:

100y breast: 1:05.34
200y breast: 2:24.35
200y IM: 2:08.50
400y IM: 4:37.46
50y free: 26.23
100y free: 57.02

Mattar will be a nice addition to the Lady Cardinals’ roster. Her 200 IM, 400 IM, 100 breast, and 200 breast would all have scored in the B-finals at the 2014 GLIAC Championships. She joins fellow commit Alexandra Davis in the class of 2019.
