Mallory Weggemann will lead SwimSwam’s coverage of the 2014 Pan Pacific Para-Swimming Championships

SwimSwam is partnering with 2012 Paralympic gold medalist and ESPY winner Mallory Weggemann and The Factory Agency to raise coverage of the Pan Pacific Para-Swimming Championships to heights never before attempted in the United States.

The meet will run from August 6th-10th in Pasadena, California. The opponents will feature swimmers from Para-swimming powerhouses such as Australia, Brazil, Canada, New Zealand, Russia and South Africa among many others.  There will be athletes from a total of 19 countries competing in Team USA’s feature meet for 2014.

Weggemann, a multi-time world record holder for Team USA unfortunately suffered a severe arm injury in March weeks before the U.S. team trials, which has left her out of competition for the remainder of the season.  Weggemann is currently rehabbing with her pursuits still strongly committed to making a run for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.   Although unable to compete at next weeks championships SwimSwam is honored to have Weggemann deliver interviews with athletes and coaches, session highlights, and recaps that will be featured daily on SwimSwam.com and on our Pan Pac Para-Swimming channel.

“It is such an incredible honor to partner with SwimSwam in bringing coverage to the Pan Pac Para-Swimming Championships.  Through next weeks coverage my hope is to continue to building awareness to the Paralympic movement and disability sport throughout the United States and around the world.  I look forward to attending next weeks event and watching what will certainly an incredible competition.”

Her on-camera work will be supported by Anne Lepesant of team SwimSwam and Jeremy Snyder, Managing Partner of The Factory Agency, who will be co-producing the meet.

“The 2014 Pan Pac Para swim meet is a pivotal point for the sport in the United States,” said SwimSwam’s managing editor Braden Keith. “It builds on NBC’s ground-breaking coverage of the Sochi 2014 Paralympics, and is the beginning of the lead up to the 2016 Summer Paralympic Games, which will be the most-watched event in the history of para-sport in the United States.”

“While the event does overlap with USA Swimming’s National Championship meet in nearby Irvine, we’re lucky enough to be working with Mallory and Jeremy, and are dedicating one of our senior writers exclusively to the event, so we think that it could steal some of the spotlight away.”

FINIS, who is a personal sponsor of Weggemann’s and a site sponsor of SwimSwam, has stepped up to support coverage of this event financially.

“Our goal for the coverage is to deliver a positive impact on changing perceptions towards disability and disability sport while providing Para-Sport and its athletes with unprecedented new platforms to showcase their incredible abilities in the pool,” said co-producer Jeremy Snyder.

After the action in Pasadena, the next major events for U.S. swimmers are the International Paralympic Committee Swimming World Championships scheduled for July 18-25, 2015, the ParaPan American Games, scheduled for Aug. 7-15, 2015, and the Paralympic Games scheduled for Sept. 7-18, 2016. (The Olympic Games are Aug. 5-21, 2016.)
