Le Clos Retains 4 Individual Entries for 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Start lists were released on Wednesday for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, where swimming is set to begin on Thursday, and Chad le Clos has backed off, ever-so-slightly, from his 9 early entries into this meet.

Specifically, he dropped the 400 IM and 200 backstroke, leaving him with just 4 individual events. His schedule will be:

  • 50 fly
  • 100 fly
  • 200 fly
  • 200 IM
  • 400 free relay
  • 800 free relay
  • 400 medley relay

Le Clos is one of the biggest stars at this meet, and should be the biggest individual medal winner as well, even with a “reduced” 7 swim schedule. Dropping the 200 backstroke will free him up on the day before his best event, the 200 fly, where he’ll now have just a relay swim.

Full start lists are available here, heat-by-heat. Click on the event to see the heats, then click on a heat to see the entries.

“before his best event, the 400 IM”…….200 fly perhaps?

Second paragraph…”just 7 individual events” should read “just 4 individual events and 7 events total,” right?
