Lajunen Sweeps the Women’s Distance Freestyle Events at Finnish Championships

Laura Lajunen swept the women’s distance events by taking the women’s 1500 freestyle in a time of 17:08.30 on the fourth evening of competition at the Finnish National Championships. With that win she collects gold in the 400, 800 and 1500 freestyle at the championships.

In the semi-final of the women’s 100 breaststroke Jenna Laukkanen broke her own national record of 1:08.59 by qualifying for the final in a time of 1:08.55. Laukkanen was looking to do it again, but came up short winning the event in a time of 1:08.84. 

The men’s 50 backstroke was incredibly tight with Janne Markkanen winning the event in a time of 26.83. He was followed by Miro Vasko who touched in a time of 26.88 and Sergei Haukka who finished third in a time of 26.92.

In another race which was tightly contested Niko Matela took the men’s 50 butterfly in a time of 24.59. He was followed by Anton Herrala and Ari-Pekka Liukkonen who tied for the silver in a time of 24.86.

Fanny Teijonaslo won the women’s 200 IM in a time of 2:19.21.

The highlight of the semi-finals was Mimosa Jallow who posted a 28.71 and will be chasing her national record time of 28.38 in tomorrow’s final.
