Kivirinta Challenges Finnish Record in the 50 Breaststroke in Vaasa

Veera Kivirinta took the women’s 50 breaststroke on the second day of the Finnish National Championships in Vaasa. Kivirinta posted a time of 31.22 improving on her lifetime best of 31.57, challenging Katja Lehtonen‘s national record of 31.14 which was set in 2009.

The win was not an easy one for Kivirinta who was challenged by Jenna Laukkanen who finished second in a time of 31.35.

Kivirinta’s time places her 15th in the world rankings while Laukkanen’s time puts her 18th.

Tuomas Pokkinen, who is not far off Jere Hard‘s 100 butterfly national record of 53.08 which was set in 2001, took the men’s event in a time of 53.68. Pokkinen was just off his lifetime best of 53.53.

Mimosa Jallow took the women’s 100 backstroke in a time of 1:02.76 while Christoffer Fredrikson won the men’s event in a time of 57.85.

Matti Mattsson took the men’s 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:02.50.

In the too longer events of the evening Kalle Pyykkonen won the men’s 400 IM in a time of 4:32.63 while Laura Lajunen took the women’s 800 freestyle in a time of 8:55.40.
