Kaitlin Harty Breaks State Record At Massachusetts North Sectional

Kaitlin Harty broke a Massachusetts state high school record in the 100 backstroke this past weekend. She was competing for Beverly High School in the Massachusetts Women’s Winter North Sectional. She swam 53.79 in the 100 backstroke. The previous record was held by Marie Chamberlin of Nauset High School.

Harty has swum well faster outside of high school competition. The Junior National teamer has a personal best of 51.67. The season is not over for Harty, however, as she will still have the overall state championship to compete in next weekend.

Massachusetts Girls swimming can often be confusing as there are two separate seasons with completely different teams competing. Typically the winter season, which is shared with Boys swimming and diving in the state, is stronger. For comparison there were no girls under 1:00 at the Fall Swimming and Diving Championship in the 100 backstroke.

Harty currently trains at the YMCA of the North Shore, also located in Beverly. She will attend the University of Texas this coming fall.

I’m surprised Elizabeth Beisel never went under 53.79 in high school
