Indiana’s Cozad Advances to Platform Final

KAZAN, Russia — Former Indiana University All-American diver Amy Cozad has advanced to the final round of the platform competition at the 2015 FINA World Championships in Kazan, Russia.

The final round will take place on Thursday, July 30. Cozad earned her spot in the final after posting a score of 345.40 in the semifinal round, good for sixth place overall.

The top 12 divers in the semifinals advanced to the final. By advancing to 10-meter finals, Cozad also secures a quota spot for the U.S. for the 2016 Olympic Games.

Cozad was fifth after the morning preliminary session, putting up a score of 345.00. Fellow American and Hoosiers diver Jessica Parratto was 21st in the morning session (301.85) and did not advance to the semifinal round.

Parratto teamed up with David Boudia for the Mixed Team Event final, and the duo finish seventh with a score of 395.40. The mixed team event consisted of three dives each from Parratto and Boudia, combining the scores for the final tally.

In Tuesday action, IU sophomore James Connor and partner Grant Nel finished 12th for Australia in the men’s 3-meter synchro event with a score of 387.69.

Competition continues on Thursday with Hoosiers Connor, Michael Hixon, Darian Schmidt and Emad Abdelatif competing in the 3-meter springboard prelims. Hixon has already earned a medal this week, taking bronze in the 1-meter springboard finalon Monday.
