GREENVILLE, N.C. — The East Carolina University women’s swimming and diving team has been named a Scholar All-American team by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), the organization announced Tuesday.
To be selected as a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, programs must have achieved a GPA of 3.00 or higher during the spring semester. As a team, the Pirates compiled a 3.47 GPA during the spring semester, highest among all American Athletic Conference programs.
The CSCAA also revealed its list of men and women who were tabbed to the Scholar All-America team based on their academic and athletic performance. Individuals must have achieved a GPA of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective swimming and diving championships. Honorable Mention selections must have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a “B” time standard or competed at their respective qualifying meets.
Senior Rokas Cepulis and junior Megan Sellers were named to the Scholar All-American team, while senior Daniel Woods, juniors Alex Clark and Bailie Monahan, sophomore Alicia Roueche and freshman Vendela Norrman were tagged honorable mention.
Cepulis capped the 2014-15 campaign at the NCAA Championships participating in the men’s 100 and 200-yard breaststroke. He finished his illustrious career as the owner of ECU varsity records in each of the aforementioned events as well as the 200-yard IM. Cepulis swept the breaststroke events at the 2015 American Athletic Conference Championships, capturing gold in the 100 and 200.
Sellers recorded a pair of top-10 finishes at the American Athletic Conference Championships, placing third in the 100-yard breaststroke and sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke. She then competed in both events at the NCAA Championships in Greensboro. She holds the ECU varsity record in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Clark and Roueche each qualified for the NCAA Zone Regional Diving Championships with Monahan posting NCAA ‘B’ qualifying times in the 100 and 200-yard butterfly. Norrman posted a ‘B’ qualifying mark in the 200-yard breaststroke as did Woods in the 200-yard butterfly.
Founded in 1922, the CSCAA – the oldest organization of college coaches in America – is a professional organization of college swimming and diving coaches dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of the sport of swimming & diving at the collegiate level.
